What is a Tied Cut And Burned Tubal Ligation?
There are four main ways to do a tubal ligation (close the tube to prevent pregnancy):
- close each tube with a clip or ring
- close each tube by burning the tube
- close the tube by tying it with a suture and cutting out a piece of tube
When the tubes are closed by ‘tying’ the tube with suture and ‘cutting out’ a small piece of the each tube…this is called ligation and resection. Ligation means to cut… and resection means to remove a piece by cutting.
When your tubes are ‘tied and cut‘….a small section of the tube is tied off with absorbable suture. After this is done a small piece of the tube in between the suture is removed by cutting.
The only purpose of the suture is to prevent bleeding after the tube is cut. Eventually the tube will heal closed, the suture will get absorbed, and the ends of the tube will heal over and separate.
A ‘tied cut and burned‘ tubal ligation is a slight modification when the doctor takes an electric scalpel and burns just the very ends of the cut tubes. This is one further minor step to prevent bleeding from the cut ends.
Is A Tied Cut And Burned Tubal Ligation Bad? Is it harder to reverse?
Although tied cut and burned sounds bad it really is not…it is just one more minor step the doctor takes during the tubal ligation. What is more important is how much tube the doctor removes.
Surgery to reverse a tied cut and burned tube involves removing the closed ends of the Fallopian tubes and rejoining the open ends of the tube. It is just as easy as reversing a ‘tied and cut’ tubal ligation.
