The new year is now upon us and many women will be deciding to have tubal reversal surgery at A Personal Choice.
After the festive holiday meals are over many women start to worry if there body weight will be a major factor when having tubal reversal.
Body weight is one factor to consider when planning tubal reversal surgery and having the ideal body weight before your tubal ligation reversal surgery can get you off to a great start for both a successful reversal surgery and a healthy pregnancy.
Weight Limits For Tubal Ligation Reversal
At A Personal Choice our first priority is the safety of our patients. Our second and third priorities are maintaining our industry leading 98% successful tubal surgery repair rate and our 70% tubal reversal pregnancy success statistics.
Body weight is a very key factor in surgery safety, success, and pregnancy.
Is Tubal Reversal Safe?
Tubal reversal at our facility is an incredibly safe procedure and we intend to keep it that way.
As a person’s body weight increases surgeries begin to have more risks and complications. The medical literature clearly demonstrates surgical complications are increased in obese patients. We have established a system to identify patients who is at higher risk of a complication based on body weight criteria.
We utilize a Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation system to determine who may be more at risk during tubal reversal surgery. We have established a BMI limit of 37 for our tubal reversal patients. When our patients choose to have a screening laparoscopy before tubal reversal surgery the BMI limit is 32 for the laparoscopy portion of the surgery.
Readers who are interested in calculating their BMI can use our Tubal Reversal BMI calculator.
We feel our BMI limit is one of many reasons our patients have very minimal risk during tubal reversal surgery.
Weight Loss For Tubal Ligation Reversal
We do not have a weight limit because weight by itself is not a good factor to consider. Taller people can weigh more but their body fat is distributed widely. Shorter people can weigh less but their body fat can be concentrated in the area of surgery. A BMI system is a much fairer way to evaluate body fat because it factors in the height of the patient. So we do not have a weight limit directly but we do have a BMI limit for surgery.
Weight loss before tubal reversal can assist in making the surgery safer.
Ideal Weight For Tube Reversal
There is not an ideal weight for tubal reversal but, in general, the less obese a person is the healthier they are considered. An ideal BMI for tubal reversal at our facility is less than 37. We feel this will put you in the best position to have a safe and successful tubal reversal surgery but having tubal reversal surgery and getting pregnant is only half of the battle. The other half is having a healthy pregnancy.
Multiple medical studies have demonstrated women who have ideal body weight, nutrition and exercise have the healthiest pregnancies. We have great confidence that our BMI limit for tubal reversal not only assists us in providing the safest tubal reversal experience for our patients but also puts them on the road towards having healthy and safe pregnancies. A quick view of our Facebook Tubal Reversal Baby Testimonial photos will provide proof of the healthy pregnancies of our patients!
