Reversal surgery: Evening After Tifany’s Surgery
Tifany did great during her surgery. In the recovery room she was a little sleepy but was able to meet all of her goals for discharge: the ability to void spontaneously and good pain control. Tifany was then driven back to the hotel in a private car which was arranged by the hotel. She then went to sleep and when she woke up she was feeling much better.
Like most of our patients, Tiffany was able to eat dinner that night and she had Richard go out and get her something to eat. Thankfully the hotel is immediately surrounded by many restaurants and even a grocery store that are all within walking distance. Richard did not want to experiment with any ‘fancy’ food so he got her a hamburger from the boutique bowling alley which was one block away from the hotel.

Tifany ate dinner without any problems and was able to get a good night’s rest before her postoperative appointment at our office.

Tifany and Richard arrived at 8:30AM for her postoperative incision check and meeting with Dr. Monteith.
She was checked in by the front desk staff and Nurse Hudak brought them back to the nursing station. She took Tifany’s vital signs and then escorted them to the exam room. Tifany reported that her pain was a 2 on a scale of 10!
Nurse Hudak then removed Tifany’s dressing, cleaned the tubal reversal incision, and replaced the dressing.
Richard was impressed that the incision used for tubal reversal surgery was barely visible!
Reversal Consultation

I met with Tifany and Richard. I discussed the findings during surgery and what was done.
We discussed the health and length of Tifany’s tubes and the health of her ovaries. I then reviewed how to take the post-operative pain medications and what to expect after surgery. I explained the most discomfort would be within the first several days but then things should dramatically improve and gas pain can be very common and uncomfortable within the first 7 days of reversal surgery.
Tiffany was doing very well. She was taking the ibuprofen as instructed and she was taking very little of the stronger narcotic medication. Tiffany, Richard, and I posed for a few pictures and they then left the center to return home.

Tubal reversal costs: Cheaper than in vitro
Tubal reversal surgery at our center is very affordable…much more affordable than in vitro fertilization (IVF). A single IVF treatment averages $14,000. The average success of a single treatment is 38%. If you don’t become pregnant then you will need to purchase an additional treatment.
About 2 out of 3 women who have tubal reversal surgery will become pregnant.
Another major consideration is that women who are 42 years of age or older will be encourage to have IVF with donor eggs (eggs from a younger woman). This is a major ethical issue for some parents and it also adds to the cost of an IVF treatment cycle.
