Patients having vasectomy reversed will receive general anesthesia under the care of an experienced anesthesia provider. Vasectomy is reversed during a 2 to 3 hour surgery through a single, small incision in the center of the scrotum. The vasectomy reversal procedure is performed by Dr. Monteith or Dr. Harris using eye loupe magnification with 9-0 microscopic sutures.

Patients have their follow-up visit the day after their surgery and are then free to return home. Patients can return to work in 3 to 5 days and resume sexual activity after 2 weeks.
A confirmatory semen sample is recommended 3 months after vasectomy reversal and most patients should achieve pregnancy within 12 to 18 months of vasectomy reversal.
Success of reversing vasectomy
The success of vasectomy reversal is mostly determined by the length of time since having the vasectomy procedure.
